Alfa Romeo exited the compact car market when the Mito and Giulietta were discontinued. However, the renowned Italian automaker is staging a return with the Milano.
The world premiere of the new compact SUV model is scheduled for April 10, and you can tune in to the live stream of the unveiling on Alfa Romeo’s global website. While it adopts the crossover design, Alfa’s team of Italian engineers, who have experience with sports cars such as the 4C and 8C, have focused on delivering top-notch driving dynamics and exceptionally precise steering geometry for the new model.
Like Jeep, it is anticipated to be available in mild hybrid and fully electric versions, the Alfa Milano is poised to lead the charge as the brand’s inaugural EV offering. This marks the beginning of a series of electric vehicle products Alfa Romeo plans to introduce by the end of the decade.
As reported by Autocar, the electric version will feature four-wheel drive, and its 54-kWh battery is expected to provide a range of approximately 400 kilometers between charges. It’s highly probable that the mild hybrid variants will utilize the well-known 1.2-liter PureTech petrol turbo-triple engine, which originates from Peugeot’s lineup. The Milano is just one of the electric products Alfa Romeo has promised, with perhaps the most thrilling prospect being the Giulia replacement slated for 2026.
Alfa Romeo CEO, Jean Philippe Imparto, confirmed in a recent interview with Motor1 that the upcoming sports sedan will share the Stellantis STLA Large platform with the new Dodge Charger. However, he emphasized that it would boast a “radically different design” that promises to be nothing short of stunning. “What we designed is a bomb, we couldn’t finalise the style of this car without being absolutely in love with it. And now we are!”, he stated.
Here’s the real kicker, according to Motor1: both the upcoming Giulia and its Stelvio SUV sibling, might come with both electric and regular gas-powered engines. Initially, folks believed these flagship models would be exclusively electric. However, it seems car manufacturers are having second thoughts about going all-electric, especially with global demand being unpredictable.
The Charger has already set the bar high on the STLA Large platform, offering electric power up to 500kW and a straight-six turbocharged petrol engine cranking out between 313kW and 410kW. Of course, the Alfa versions will likely have their own unique tweaks, courtesy of those Italian engineers, aiming to infuse that distinct Italian flair.
We’re itching to see what they’ve got up their sleeves.
