South African football mourns the loss of Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs, who was tragically killed during a hijacking last week. In a positive development, police have arrested six suspects in connection with the crime.
Fleurs, a rising star recently named the 2021/22 PSL Young Player of the Season, was shot in Honeydew. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) reports a multi-disciplinary team worked tirelessly to track down the suspects. Their efforts culminated in the arrest of six individuals in Slovoville, Soweto, on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024.
Authorities believe these individuals may be part of a larger carjacking syndicate operating in Gauteng. The recovered vehicle, unfortunately stripped of parts, was found on April 8th.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Friday, April 12th, 2024. The investigation is ongoing, with the possibility of further arrests.
This senseless act has left the Kaizer Chiefs organization and South African football fans devastated. Fleurs’ talent and potential were undeniable, making his loss even more heartbreaking. The swift arrests offer some solace, with the hope that justice will be served.
