Orlando Pirates pulled off an impressive comeback to secure a 3-2 victory score over Kaizer Chiefs, in a DSTV Premiership match at FNB Stadium. Despite falling behind twice in the game, the Buccaneers showed resilience and determination to claim the win, completing a league double over Chiefs in the process.
The match started with Chiefs taking an early lead through Ashley Du Preez, who capitalized on a defensive error to put his team ahead. However, Pirates fought back and equalized through Monnapule Saleng midway through the first half.
Chiefs regained the lead just before halftime with Du Preez finding the net again, but Pirates refused to back down. Thabiso Lebitso scored a crucial equalizer early in the second half, before Saleng struck again to give Pirates the lead for the first time in the match.
Despite Chiefs’ efforts, Pirates claimed the win, now second in the league behind Mamelodi Sundowns in standings.
The win was a significant boost for Pirates, who had missed out on a chance to climb the table in their previous match against Cape Town Spurs. Chiefs, on the other hand, came into the game on the back of a confidence-boosting win over Golden Arrows but couldn’t maintain their momentum against a determined Pirates side.
The result delighted the packed FNB Stadium crowd and further intensified the rivalry between the two teams. Pirates will be hoping to carry this momentum forward in their upcoming fixtures, while Chiefs will be looking to bounce back from this defeat in their quest for league success.
