Two Premier League players, both 19 years old and from the same club, have been arrested on suspicion of assault and rape, as reported in the United Kingdom. The incident allegedly occurred outside their club’s ground over the weekend.

The two players were taken into custody but have since been released after being questioned by the police. According to The Sun newspaper, the reported rape took place last Friday night, with the victim informing the authorities several hours later.

A police spokesperson stated that one of the players was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape, while the other was arrested on suspicion of rape. Both players have been released on police bail.

The club involved has refrained from making further comments as the matter is now under police investigation.

This incident adds to a series of troubling events in football, including last year’s arrest of Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood on suspicion of assault and attempted rape, though charges against him were dropped later on. Earlier this year, Brazilian footballers Dani Alves and Robinho were jailed after being found guilty of rape.

Football authorities and clubs continue to face challenges in addressing such incidents and ensuring the safety and well-being of players and the broader community.
