GEORGE, South Africa – The grim search for survivors of the George building collapse entered its sixth day on Sunday, with the recovery of another body bringing the confirmed death toll to 17.

The multi-story building gave way on Monday, trapping 81 construction workers beneath the tons of debris. A relentless rescue operation has been ongoing ever since, with teams working tirelessly to locate and extract any survivors.

“The focus remains on finding any remaining signs of life,” said a spokesperson for the disaster management team. “We are utilizing all available resources, including search dogs and heavy machinery, to meticulously clear the wreckage.”

However, the window for finding survivors shrinks with each passing hour. The emotional toll on rescue workers, families of the missing, and the entire community is immense.

Thirty-five construction workers remain unaccounted for. The families of the missing cling to hope, but the discovery of another victim dampens their spirits.

“This is a devastating tragedy,” said a local resident volunteering at a support center for families. “Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this collapse.”

The cause of the building collapse is still under investigation. Authorities have promised a thorough probe to determine the factors that led to this disaster.

The South African government has pledged its full support to the rescue efforts and has committed to assisting the families of the deceased and injured.
