As of today, May 14, 2024, the tragic building collapse in George, South Africa has claimed the lives of 33 people, with 12 hospitalized. This is an update from the previous reported toll of 32.
Rescue efforts continue, with a focus on identifying the deceased and locating any survivors who may still be trapped under the rubble. So far, only six victims have been positively identified.
The cause of the collapse remains under investigation. Authorities are urging anyone who cannot reach loved ones who were in the building to come forward to assist with identification efforts.
