LONDON – Phil Foden’s stellar season has been further rewarded as he was named the Premier League’s Player of the Season on Saturday. The 23-year-old midfielder played a pivotal role in Manchester City’s dominant campaign, propelling them within touching distance of a historic fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Foden’s contributions have been undeniable. He has notched an impressive 17 goals and 8 assists in just 34 league appearances, showcasing his versatility by seamlessly shifting between central and wing positions. Across all competitions, his tally rises to a remarkable 25 goals and 11 assists.

Heading into the final matchday, City hold a two-point advantage over Arsenal. Should Pep Guardiola’s men secure the title, Foden will etch his name further into Premier League history by becoming the youngest player ever to win six Premier League trophies.

“I am extremely proud,” Foden expressed after receiving the award. “The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons.”

He continued, “I’ve been very happy with the way I have played this season and really pleased that I have been able to contribute with the goals and assists throughout the season.”

Foden emerged victorious from a competitive shortlist that included fellow Premier League stars like Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, Virgil van Dijk, and Ollie Watkins. This award marks the fifth consecutive year a Manchester City player has claimed the top honor, solidifying their dominance in recent seasons. Foden joins Ruben Dias, Erling Haaland, and Kevin De Bruyne (two-time winner) on the club’s prestigious list.

The last player outside of Manchester City to win the award was Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, who received it in the 2018-19 season.

With Foden’s brilliance at the forefront and City on the cusp of a historic feat, the Premier League season reaches a thrilling climax this weekend.
