Bloemfontein – Three suspects were apprehended by Free State police on Wednesday afternoon after they allegedly robbed a family in Fauna.

According to Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli, the provincial police spokesperson, the ordeal began around 2:30 pm when the suspects accosted a 33-year-old man outside his residence.

“One suspect threatened the man with a firearm while the other restrained him,” said Kareli. “The man was then robbed of his cellphone.”

The situation escalated when the suspects decided to wait for the man’s 60-year-old mother to return home.

“Upon her arrival,” Kareli continued, “the woman was also threatened with the firearm and forced to unlock the house. She was then taken to a bedroom and robbed of her cellphone, money, and keys.”

While the suspects ransacked the house, the restrained man managed to break free and seek help from a neighbor.

“Parkweg police responded swiftly,” Kareli reported, “with the assistance of private security, Bloemfontein K9 unit, Anti-Gang Unit, and Mounted Unit. One suspect was apprehended in the bathroom with an unlicensed firearm. The remaining two suspects fled on foot but were later caught with the stolen property.”

One of the apprehended individuals was identified as an illegal immigrant.

All three suspects, aged 31, 32, and 32, have been charged with house robbery and are due to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court soon.
