Durban – Two people are in police custody following a discovery of a human body in their car by Metro Police officers during a traffic stop on the M41 yesterday.
According to Metro Police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu, officers pulled the vehicle over for a routine check when they noticed suspicious behavior from the driver. The driver reportedly became jittery and attempted to flee the scene, prompting a chase by law enforcement.
Upon apprehending the vehicle and conducting a thorough search, officers discovered a human body wrapped in plastic. Medical personnel were called to the scene and confirmed the death of the individual.
“The two occupants of the vehicle have been arrested and detained at the Durban North South African Police Service (SAPS) station,” said Zungu. “A full investigation is underway.”
Colonel Zungu further reported that the traffic stop also resulted in the arrest of 16 drunk drivers with blood alcohol readings ranging from 0.28mg/l to a high of 0.71mg/l, exceeding the legal limit. Two additional arrests were made for driving without the necessary professional permits.
