South African giants Kaizer Chiefs are undergoing a period of transition, with the departures of several senior players confirmed this week. Siyethemba Sithebe’s emotional farewell on Instagram resonated with fans, highlighting the end of an era for the club.
According to Mthokozisi Dube of FARPost, defenders Keegan Dolly, Sifiso Hlanti, and Njabulo Ngcobo, along with midfielder Sithebe, will not have their contracts renewed. The 31-year-old Sithebe expressed his gratitude to the “Khosi Nation” – the Chiefs’ passionate fanbase – acknowledging the immense opportunity representing the club afforded him.
These departures pave the way for a squad overhaul under the new coaching regime. Assistant coach Fernando Cruz has arrived to begin assessments before head coach Nasreddine Nabi joins from AS FAR in Morocco next month. A critical first step for the coaching staff is evaluating the existing 28-player squad, minus the confirmed departures and Colombian striker Jasond Gonzalez, whose loan deal will not be made permanent.
The Colombian forward, who failed to find the net in 12 appearances, will return to his parent club Real Santa Cruz in Bolivia. This decision highlights the Chiefs’ need for reinforcements, particularly a goal-scoring threat.
Chiefs face stiff competition domestically from Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. The upcoming assessment period will be crucial in identifying areas for improvement and potential signings to bolster the squad’s competitiveness.
The focus on youth development within the Chiefs organization suggests some of the departing veterans may be replaced by homegrown talent. However, targeted acquisitions to address weaknesses and add experience will likely be high on the club’s agenda.
With a new coaching team and a revamped squad on the horizon, Kaizer Chiefs fans will be eager to see how the rebuild takes shape and whether the club can return to challenging for trophies in the coming season.
