Heartbreak for SA Duo as They Miss Out on 400m Hurdles Final

Paris, France – South Africa’s Zeney Geldenhuys and Rogail Joseph narrowly missed out on a place in the Olympic women’s 400m hurdles final after producing personal best performances. Both athletes finished third in their respective semi-finals, but unfortunately, their times were not fast enough to secure a spot in the final.
Geldenhuys clocked a time of 53.90 seconds, while Joseph finished in 54.12 seconds. Despite their impressive performances, they were unable to match the speed of the athletes who qualified from the final semi-final.
Meanwhile, Lythe Pillay and Zakithi Nene were unable to progress beyond the semi-finals in the men’s 400m. Pillay finished last in his heat, while Nene was also eliminated after finishing sixth.
There was some positive news for Team SA as Miranda Coetzee secured her place in the women’s 400m semi-finals after a strong performance in the repechage. Unfortunately, Benjamin Richardson withdrew from the men’s 200m repechage due to the hamstring injury sustained earlier in the competition.
In other action, South African kayaking duo Andrew Birkett and Hamish Lovemore advanced to the semi-finals in the men’s kayak double 500m, while Tiffany Koch and Esti Olivier were eliminated in the women’s kayak double 500m quarter-finals.
South Africa’s climbing representatives, Lauren Mukheibir and Joshua Bruyns, also faced disappointment as they were eliminated from their respective events.
Despite the setbacks, Team SA will continue to compete in various disciplines, with hopes of securing medals in the remaining days of the Olympics.
