Charlotte Maxeke’s Water Crisis Woes

JOHANNESBURG – It seems like Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital is currently facing water supply challenges due to the inadequate provision from Johannesburg Water. As a result, the hospital will prioritize emergency cases and coordinate elective surgeries to take place at nearby health facilities. This has been confirmed by the Gauteng Health Department and Johannesburg Water.

The hospital initially experienced low water pressure on Monday morning, and it was later discovered that Johannesburg Water had ceased supplying water to the hospital’s bulk water tanks on September 13. To address this issue temporarily, the hospital management has arranged for a water supply from Johannesburg Water and has organized the delivery of bottled water to ensure uninterrupted patient care. The department is actively engaging with Johannesburg Water to resolve the problem and is dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare to all citizens.

Joburg Water’s technical teams are currently working to address the supply challenges affecting the Parktown 2 reservoir, resulting in low water pressure and, in some cases, no water supply. While the reservoir has been reconfigured to increase incoming supply, there is currently no estimated time for full restoration. The performance of the Parktown 2 reservoir has also impacted the Berea and Dunkeld reservoirs.
