Drug Mule at OR Tambo Airport Rushed to Hospital After Medical Emergency

Authorities at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg have arrested a suspected drug mule caught trafficking cocaine. The individual, now facing health complications, was quickly transported to the hospital for urgent medical care.
A 43-year-old man from Paraguay was apprehended on Sunday at OR Tambo International Airport. According to police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the suspect has expelled approximately 117 drug pellets, believed to contain cocaine.

Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, the Deputy National Commissioner for Policing, has confirmed that the drug mule apprehended at OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday was urgently transported to the hospital due to sudden health complications.
“The releasing process has been stopped. She says this must send a strong message out there and serve as a deterrent that this exercise is dangerous and can cause loss of life. Saps (South African Police Service) remains on high alert to prevent and combat criminality at Or Tambo International Airport,” Mathe said.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk, revealed that the man was apprehended by authorities at OR Tambo Airport shortly after arriving on a flight from São Paulo.
OR Tambo International Airport has become a hot spot for drug mule arrests, with SAPS apprehending at least one trafficker each week over the past month. This week, police made a major bust, catching three drug mules, including two Dutch nationals smuggling 80kg of Cat.
Police have been cracking down on drug mules arriving from São Paulo, with multiple arrests made recently. Just last Sunday, a 21-year-old South African woman was nabbed at OR Tambo International Airport after authorities discovered drugs concealed in her stomach.
The suspected drug mule, who arrived on a flight from São Paulo, was arrested by airport police after a medical exam revealed he had ingested several foreign objects. So far, he has expelled over 20 pellets, believed to be filled with cocaine.
This brings the total number of drug mules arrested at this airport in the last couple of weeks to fourteen,” Mathe said. She added that every week in the last month, the police have arrested at least one drug mule at the same airport.
