Sekhukhune United footballer Shaun Mogaila has turned himself in to the police following a fatal crash on Andrew Mapheto Road earlier today, which tragically claimed the life of a nine-year-old girl.
The collision, which occurred on the morning of October 30, involved a female driver transporting her nine-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old child. The incident resulted in the death of the nine-year-old girl at the scene, while the 13-year-old sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Thembisa Tertiary Hospital.
According to Thabiso Makgatho, media liaison officer for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), four bottles of potent alcohol, suspected cocaine, and “weed edibles” were discovered in the vehicle that allegedly struck the victims. The 29-year-old driver reportedly fled the scene after the crash.
Shaun Mogaila has since handed himself over to the authorities, and a case of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and fleeing the scene of an accident has been opened. The investigation is ongoing, with police working to confirm all relevant details surrounding the incident.
