Poacher Killed by Hippo in Kruger National Park

Pretoriuskop, South Africa – A suspected poacher was tragically killed by a hippopotamus in the Kruger National Park on Monday, highlighting the dangers faced by those who illegally enter the park.
The incident occurred in the Pretoriuskop section of the park when a tourist stumbled upon the lifeless body of the individual along a park road.
According to Kruger National Park spokesperson JP Louw, the deceased was part of a three-person group who had illegally entered the park under the cover of darkness with the intention of committing a crime, likely poaching. However, their illicit activities were abruptly halted when they encountered a hippopotamus, which attacked the group.
“One of the suspects sustained fatal injuries during the encounter,” Louw confirmed. “The remaining two individuals then reportedly carried their deceased accomplice’s body to a nearby road where they abandoned it.”
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers inherent in illegal activities within the park. The Kruger National Park, renowned for its abundant wildlife, also poses significant risks to those who disregard its rules and regulations.
