Johannesburg Courts Closed as Water Crisis Grips City

Johannesburg, South Africa – Several parts of Johannesburg are facing severe water shortages, forcing the temporary closure of the Johannesburg High Court and leaving residents grappling with dry taps. The crisis, exacerbated by recent power outages, has put immense strain on the city’s water infrastructure.

The situation was further compounded by recent power failures at the Eikenhof and Vaal dams, which hampered efforts to replenish already depleted reservoirs. Ntshavheni Mukwevho, Managing Director of Johannesburg Water, explained that these outages caused significant setbacks in maintaining adequate water levels.

Residents in affected areas are facing significant challenges, struggling with basic hygiene and household tasks. The water shortages have also raised concerns about the potential impact on businesses and healthcare facilities.
