Renowned comedian Ebenhaezer Dibakwane has sadly passed away at just 31 years old, leaving an enduring mark on the South African entertainment industry.
“Our hearts are broken as we announce the untimely passing of Ebenhaezer Dibakwane, beloved son, brother, uncle friend and celebrated actor and comedian” Lesedi Dibakwana-his brother confirmed the news in a statement
He also mentioned that additional information will be provided promptly.
The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.
“We are incredibly saddened to report the loss of esteemed comedian, actor, and writer Ebenhaezer Dibakwane. A friend and source of inspiration to many, he will be remembered for his quirky humor, distinct viewpoint, and original approach to stand-up comedy,” said the Pickled Ginger Entertainment Agency in a sincere announcement.
The creative artist, who has received multiple accolades, was honored with the Savannah Comics Choice Newcomer of the Year award in 2016.
In recent years, he also secured the Savannah Comics Choice Award for Intermediate Comedian of the Year and garnered two additional nominations.
He was acknowledged for his writing talents with a nomination for Best Achievement in Scriptwriting.
Ebenhaezer was well-known for his dynamic performances in hit television series like Divorced at 50, Real Estate Sisters, and Miseducation, where his skill was evident in complex and relatable characters. He made his television acting debut in 2015, appearing as a film crew director in the e.tv soap opera Ashes to Ashes, a role that displayed his natural charm. The next year, he began hosting the SABC1 show Walala Wasala, further cementing his position in the industry.
In the world of stand-up comedy, Ebenhaezer’s career included several notable moments. He gained fame by opening for award-winning comedian Dillan Oliphant during his debut one-man show, Oliphant in the Room, enchanting audiences with his lively performances. He was also a key member of the Stand Up 4 Comedy collective, sharing the stage with prominent comedians such as Gavin Kelly, Virgil Prins, and Mo Mothebe. Furthermore, he appeared on the prestigious bill of the Comedy Central International Comedy Festival, performing alongside comedy icons like Trevor Noah, Aries Spears, Jeff Ross, Hannibal Buress, Marc Lottering, Basketmouth, Carl Joshua Ncube, Eugene Khoza, Tats Nkonzo, and others.
Ebenhaezer’s creative comedic style and heartfelt spirit will be greatly missed by fans, colleagues, and the wider comedy community.
