Purple Group, listed on the JSE and known for its widely used trading platform EasyEquities, reported strong financial results for the six months ending February 2025. The company revealed an extraordinary increase in its basic and headline earnings per share, rising by 204.1% to 2.36 cents, compared to only 0.78 cents in the same period last year. This significant growth was detailed in a recent Sens announcement made on Wednesday.

For the half-year period, Purple Group’s overall revenue saw a healthy increase of 25.8%, reaching R238 million. Furthermore, the company’s net asset value per share grew by 9.0%, reaching 45.35 cents from 41.60 cents during the comparable period of 2024. These results highlight the company’s strong operational performance and focus on strategic growth.

The group’s main asset is its Easy Portfolio, which comprises various innovative trading and investment platforms such as EasyEquities, EasyProperties, and EasyAssetMgmt. These platforms cater to a diverse array of investors by providing accessible and user-friendly investment options. EasyEquities, specifically, has revolutionized investment access for South Africans, enabling fractional share ownership and low-cost trading.

Charles Savage, the CEO of Purple Group, conveyed his optimism about the company’s achievements, stating, “We’re finding our rhythm. This isn’t just growth – it’s proof that our platform model scales with discipline and a client-centered approach. Although client deposits are increasing, they have not yet returned to peak levels, indicating that there is more growth potential as global market clarity improves. We’re strategically positioned to capitalize on that momentum.”

During the period under review, revenue from client activities on the platform increased by 40.0%, amounting to R99 million. In addition, non-activity-based revenue grew by 24.0% to R117 million, now making up 54.1% of Easy Group’s overall revenue. This segment generates income from various sources, including asset management fees, administration fees, cash management services, and other asset-related charges, showcasing the group’s diverse revenue streams.

Moreover, Purple Group’s operational efficiency has played a vital role in its success. Operating expenses rose by only 13.0%, significantly lower than the revenue growth rate, demonstrating the company’s strong cost control. Profit for ordinary shareholders surged by an impressive 208.5% to R33.5 million, in comparison to R10.9 million in the same period last year.

After 11 years in the industry, Purple Group has considerably expanded its offerings. Besides EasyEquities, it now includes EasyProperties for property investments, EasyCrypto for cryptocurrency trading, EasyProtect—a life assurance solution—and EasyCredit, allowing investors to borrow up to R300,000 against qualifying investments. Last year, the group introduced EasyTrader, a tool designed for more active trading, and plans to launch EasyRetire in 2025, focusing on retirement planning and savings solutions, as previously reported by Moneyweb.

The company’s client base continues to expand, with active retail clients rising by 8.2% to 1.02 million. Client assets under management grew by 31.4% to R67.2 billion, while retail inflows soared by 63.3% to R5.31 billion. These figures highlight the scalability of Purple Group’s platform model and its capacity to enhance client engagement.

Savage highlighted the impact of broader economic factors, stating, “While the macro environment is improving, there is still some uncertainty concerning global trade strategies—especially from the US—that continues to affect sentiment. What we’re experiencing is not merely a result of fortunate circumstances, but rather the outcome of deliberate decisions: focusing on value drivers, reducing friction, enhancing engagement, and building for long-term resilience.” This viewpoint emphasizes the group’s dedication to navigating external challenges while fostering sustainable growth.

Looking forward, Purple Group intends to further diversify its revenue sources and broaden its product offerings. The anticipated launch of EasyRetire is expected to reinforce its status as a comprehensive financial solutions provider, meeting a wide range of investor requirements.
