COMMISSION EXTENDED: Ramaphosa grants Madlanga inquiry more time – Until 16 November

President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended the deadline for the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry’s final report by more than two months, pushing the cutoff to 16 November 2026. The commission, which has been examining allegations of serious corruption implicating senior SAPS officers, government officials and politicians, had been under pressure to conclude its work.
Alleged crime kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala – whose testimony has been a focal point – is now scheduled to appear before the commission on 15 July, after his legal team requested additional preparation time. Matlala remains in custody facing charges including attempted murder, fraud and corruption. Commission chair Mbuyiseli Madlanga ordered him to submit his written statement by 8 July.
Speaking publicly, Ramaphosa indicated he was broadly satisfied with the commission’s progress while acknowledging its request for additional time. The extension suggests the scope and complexity of the inquiry’s findings remain significant.
