North West Political Fixer Brown Mogotsi Remains Behind Bars After High Court Dismisses Bail Appeal

The Gauteng High Court has dealt a decisive blow to one of the most politically connected figures in North West provincial politics.
Johannesburg – North West businessman and alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi will remain in custody after the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg dismissed his bail application on appeal. The National Prosecuting Authority confirmed the court found that Mogotsi had failed to present any new facts capable of justifying a reconsideration of bail pending his trial on charges relating to an alleged attempted assassination.
Mogotsi has been a significant figure in North West political circles for years, with longstanding allegations of his role in mediating relationships between business and political power in the province. His continued detention represents a meaningful signal from the justice system that seniority of political connection does not translate into special treatment at the bail stage.
The trial proceedings are expected to shed further light on the nature and extent of those alleged relationships. For now, Mogotsi remains behind bars.
