A fourth person connected to the disappearance of six-year-old Joshlin Smith appeared in court for the first time on Monday. On Friday, authorities charged Lourentia Lombaard, known to Joshlin’s mother, Kelly, and she made her initial court appearance at the Vredenburg Magistrate’s Court.

Lombaard, aged 32, remained emotionless as she stood in the dock. The State disclosed that she confessed to the police and expressed her intention to utilize Legal Aid services. The case has been adjourned until March 25 to gather information about bail.

Joshlin went missing on February 19 after not going to school due to feeling unwell. Despite extensive searches by the police, community members, and politicians in the Middelpos area of Diazville, she has not been found.

On March 5, the police arrested Kelly, Jacquen Appollis, Steveno Rhyn, and Phumza Sigaqa on charges of human trafficking and kidnapping. However, the charges against Sigaqa were withdrawn due to insufficient evidence.

Sigaqa, speaking out after her release, expressed ongoing fear for her safety, denying allegations of being a sangoma and lamenting mistreatment by the police. She remains unsettled despite her release.

The investigation into Joshlin’s disappearance continues, with Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie emphasizing the need for confidentiality to avoid compromising ongoing efforts. Pojie stated that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.

As the community anxiously awaits answers and justice for Joshlin, the search for the missing child remains a top priority for law enforcement.
