Botswana-Moria Bus Tragedy Leaves 45 Dead in Fatal Crash

In a devastating accident on Thursday, 28 March, a bus carrying congregants from Botswana to Moria in Limpopo met with a tragic fate on the R518 near Mamatlakala. The incident resulted in the loss of 45 lives, with one person sustaining serious injuries. Heartbreakingly, the sole survivor is reported to be an eight-year-old child.
According to the Department of Transport, the bus fell off a bridge, crashed, and subsequently caught fire, leaving those on board with little chance of escape. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation, although initial reports suggest that the driver lost control, leading to a collision with barriers on the bridge.
Sindisiwe Chikunga, the Minister of Transport, extended her deepest condolences to the families of the victims. She emphasized the importance of responsible driving, particularly during the Easter weekend when roads are busier than usual.
“The SAPS continues to provide updates as the rescue and recovery efforts unfold and the precise cause of the crash is under thorough investigation” – Collen Msibi, spokesperson for the Department of Transport.
