CAPE TOWN, South Africa – Western Cape police have moved to dispel speculation regarding an arrest connected to the tragic shooting of two Sasko employees last week in Delft. Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie confirmed to The Citizen that a 28-year-old Zimbabwean national apprehended in Beaufort-West on immigration charges is not a suspect in the murders.

“An undocumented person was arrested yesterday,” Pojie clarified on Thursday. “However, there is no connection to the Delft double murder.”

The arrest sparked confusion after news outlets initially linked the apprehended individual to the Sasko killings. The Zimbabwean national is expected to appear in court in Beaufort-West soon on immigration violations.

The original incident, which occurred on Thursday, May 16th, involved the fatal shooting of three Sasko employees while they were delivering bread in Delft. One of the victims, who was seated in the middle of the vehicle during the attack, miraculously survived. Sadly, the two other employees succumbed to their gunshot wounds at the scene.

The identities of the deceased victims have yet to be released by the authorities. The motive behind the killings remains unclear, and police are still searching for suspects. The investigation into the tragic murders is ongoing.

This incident has cast a dark shadow over the Delft community. The brutal nature of the crime and the lack of arrests have undoubtedly caused significant distress. Western Cape police are under pressure to apprehend those responsible and ensure justice is served.
