Johannesburg, 28 May 2024 – Allegations have surfaced against the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) in the Western Cape and Gauteng, accusing it of manipulating vote counts to favour a potential coalition between the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA). These claims have raised significant concerns about the legitimacy and validity of the election results.
The allegations, first highlighted on social media by @IECSouthAfrica, suggest that the IEC has been inflating DA numbers to suppress the votes of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party. This purported manipulation aims to create a favorable outcome for an ANC-DA government partnership.
“Parties are beginning to question the legitimacy and validity of the results. We have always seen who they work for,” one post read. The call for opposition parties to verify and vet the results is growing louder as the accusations gain traction.
“The ANC realized they are being watched by MK and now they are pushing DA numbers to suppress EFF and MK numbers. Recount!!!” stated another post, reflecting the urgency and frustration among opposition supporters.
The IEC has a long-standing reputation for overseeing fair and transparent elections since its inception. However, these recent accusations suggest that the institution’s integrity is being called into question as never before. Critics argue that the current IEC is “the worst since its inception,” underscoring the severity of the allegations.
