Johannesburg – In a major victory against illegal narcotics, South African Police Service (SAPS) successfully dismantled a clandestine drug lab in Alberton, east of Johannesburg. Acting on a tip, authorities conducted surveillance on the suspected site before obtaining a search warrant.
The raid uncovered a significant operation, seizing millions of rands worth of finished drugs, along with the equipment and precursor chemicals used in their production. Eight individuals were apprehended at the scene and face potential charges under the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act.
“This discovery and arrest will have a positive impact on Gauteng’s streets,” said Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS. “We’ve disrupted these suspects’ criminal activities and dealt a significant blow to their operations.”
The names and nationalities of the arrested haven’t been released. They are expected to appear in court soon. The seized drugs will likely be destroyed.
