Arrests Made in Khayelitsha Barbershop Shooting that Claimed Four Lives

KHAYELITSHA, South Africa – A glimmer of justice emerged for the Khayelitsha community this week as Western Cape police arrested two suspects in connection with the horrific barbershop shooting that claimed the lives of four people on Saturday.
The brutal attack, which occurred on Qwarha Street in Site C, left three children, aged 5, 11, and 12, and a 30-year-old man dead. Seven others were seriously injured, with two individuals escaping unharmed.
“Western Cape Serious Violent Crime detectives have been working tirelessly following this senseless act of violence,” said Brigadier Novela Potelwa, a Western Cape police spokesperson.
The arrested suspects, aged 24 and 28, are facing charges of murder and attempted murder for the nine wounded victims.
“The investigation remains fluid,” Potelwa cautioned. “The possibility of further arrests and additional charges cannot be excluded.”
This development comes as a relief to the Khayelitsha community, which has been reeling from the tragedy. Reagen Allen, Western Cape MEC of Police Oversight and Community Safety, had previously called for swift action.
“We need to see these perpetrators apprehended and convicted,” Allen stated. “Lives cannot be so easily discarded. SAPS must utilize all available resources to bring them to justice.”
Police have urged anyone with information regarding the case to come forward.
The two suspects are expected to appear before the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Friday. The community awaits further details as the investigation unfolds, with hope that this arrest marks a step towards both accountability and healing.
In the meantime, a separate investigation continues into another multiple shooting that occurred in Nyanga on Sunday. No arrests have been made in that case as of yet.
