Soshanguve Murders: Arrest Made in Case of Burning Children

PRETORIA, South Africa – Gauteng police have arrested a 35-year-old suspect linked to the horrific murders of two children and two other people in Soshanguve earlier this month.
The June 5th attack left the community shaken. Six people were shot, and a shack housing two sleeping girls, Mpfumo and Tiniyko aged four and seven, was set alight. The young girls tragically perished in the fire.
Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, a Gauteng police spokesperson, announced the arrest on Sunday. “Detectives have been working tirelessly to track down the perpetrators,” he said.
The suspect was apprehended in Akasia, a neighboring township. A vehicle believed to have been used during the crime was also recovered by police.
“This is a significant development,” Masondo remarked. “However, further investigation may lead to additional arrests.”
The arrested individual is expected to face four counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder when he appears before the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
“The team of detectives, led by Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Mbuso Khumalo, has been working diligently to bring those responsible for this heinous act to justice,” Masondo stated. “The search for any remaining suspects continues.”
The arrest offers a glimmer of hope for the grieving families and the Soshanguve community. However, the brutality of the crime and the ongoing search for other perpetrators underscore the urgent need for continued investigation and a commitment to curbing such violence.
