Tembisa, Gauteng – A woman impersonating a medical doctor was arrested at Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital on Tuesday, June 18th. The Gauteng Department of Health has issued a warning to both the public and healthcare workers to be vigilant against bogus medical practitioners.

Motalatale Modiba, spokesperson for the department, confirmed the arrest. “The imposter was apprehended at the hospital and handed over to the police,” he said. “She spent the night in custody and the facility management has filed a case at the Rabasotho Police Station. The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.”

Modiba emphasized the seriousness of the situation. “Unqualified individuals posing as medical professionals endanger the lives of innocent people,” he stressed. “Impersonating healthcare workers and practicing medicine without registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa is a criminal offense.”

Investigations are currently underway by both hospital authorities and the police to determine how the woman gained access to the hospital and assumed the role of a doctor. The department did not disclose any further details about the suspect or the potential impact on patients who may have interacted with her.

This incident serves as a reminder for the public to be cautious and verify the credentials of any medical professional they encounter. It also highlights the importance of robust security measures within healthcare facilities to prevent such situations.
