Johannesburg – The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has arrested 192 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during a city-wide operation conducted last week.

Spokesperson Xolani Fihla emphasized that these arrests demonstrate the JMPD’s unwavering commitment to enforcing road safety regulations and combating the dangerous practice of drunk driving.

“We urge all motorists to seriously consider the grave consequences of driving under the influence,” Fihla urged. “Make responsible decisions. If you’ve been drinking, do not drive. There are alternatives – arrange for a designated driver, utilize public transportation, or call a taxi. Your actions can literally save lives.”

Fihla assured the public that the JMPD will continue to intensify its operations to ensure the safety of all road users. He also commended the dedication and hard work of JMPD officers who enforce these laws, while expressing gratitude for the public’s cooperation.

This recent crackdown comes as a welcome sign for Johannesburg residents concerned about drunk driving. The JMPD’s proactive approach sends a clear message that driving under the influence will not be tolerated.
