Cape Town – Just as the city begins to recover from recent devastating floods, residents are facing the prospect of more disruptive rainfall. The South African Weather Service has issued a yellow level five warning for Saturday, prompting concerns about renewed flooding in already vulnerable areas.

Many parts of Cape Town remain waterlogged, and water channels are still overflowing from the previous downpours. Disaster management officials are urging residents to take precautions to protect their homes and properties.

“We advise the public to please take heed of the current advisory, and tostart implementing any possible mitigation measures around their properties in the interim,” said Charlotte Powell of Disaster Management. “This would include clearing out drainage systems and cleaning gutters, removing dead tree branches and other obstructions, and digging trenches around their homes to divert water away.”
