EFF Leader Moshe Mphahlele Shot Dead During Protest in Johannesburg

Johannesburg, South Africa — The Johannesburg Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) community is in mourning following the tragic death of Moshe Mphahlele, a ward councillor in Alexandra and the party’s deputy secretary in the city. Mphahlele was fatally shot on Sunday in a crossfire as security forces dispersed a crowd protesting in Alexandra.
The EFF has announced plans to release a formal statement regarding Mphahlele’s death. In the meantime, investigations into the incident are underway, with early reports indicating that members of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) may have been involved.
City of Johannesburg Council Speaker, Margaret Arnolds, expressed her sorrow over the loss of Mphahlele, describing him as a dedicated public servant. “His life was tragically cut short in an incident that has left us all shocked and deeply saddened,” she said.
