Bafana midfielder Sithole is recovering well and in good spirits following a successful operation.

1. Sphephelo Sithole, the midfielder for Bafana Bafana, underwent a successful leg operation at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg on Thursday, September 12, 2024. The decision to operate was made to expedite his healing process following an injury sustained during Bafana Bafana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against South Sudan. According to SAFA Chief Medical Officer Dr. Thulani Ngwenya, Sithole is expected to return to action in around 10 to 12 weeks.

SAFA President Dr. Danny Jordaan, NEC member Job Mchunu, and Dr. Ngwenya visited Sithole at the hospital on Friday and found him in good spirits. Dr. Jordaan expressed his happiness at seeing Sithole’s positive attitude just a day after the operation, wishing him a speedy recovery. Sithole also thanked everyone for their prayers, well wishes, and support, expressing gratitude to his teammates, coaches, doctors, SAFA, fans, and the country at large.

Dr. Ngwenya mentioned that Sithole would be monitored even after his discharge from the hospital in the coming days. He also stated that Sithole is making good progress and is already walking with the help of his physio. Coach Hugo Broos’ team secured a 3-2 victory against South Sudan and will be pleased to hear about Sithole’s positive recovery.
