Home Affairs Plans Remote Overhaul to Combat Illegal Immigration and Boost Efficiency

In a recent update, the Department of Home Affairs revealed extended Saturday hours from September 21 to October 12. This initiative is designed to help matriculants secure and collect their IDs in time for their upcoming final exams, which are just around the corner.

Home Affairs offices will now be open for a five-hour window, with operating times from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Home Affairs’ move toward digitisation reflects the department’s dedication to streamlining services, aiming to reduce long wait times and clear the backlog of uncollected and pending IDs. This initiative is designed to make the process faster and more efficient for citizens.

As part of efforts to improve services, Nzuza revealed that Home Affairs is gearing up to introduce a digital transformation. This includes a future remote system allowing citizens to apply for IDs and other documents from home. He also mentioned that upgrades to the department’s technological infrastructure are already in progress to enhance efficiency.
