Renowned Anti-Corruption Judge Willem Heath Passes Away

Johannesburg, South Africa – Former judge Willem Heath, a prominent figure in South Africa’s fight against corruption and fraud, has passed away at the age of 79. The news was confirmed by an impeccable source on Wednesday afternoon.

Heath, born in Boksburg in 1945, had a distinguished career in law. After obtaining his LLB degree from the University of Pretoria, he began his legal journey as a prosecutor. He later established a successful private practice in Pretoria.

In 1995, former President Nelson Mandela appointed Heath to head the Heath Commission of Inquiry into maladministration and corruption in the Eastern Cape. The commission, which he chaired until 1997, played a crucial role in exposing corruption and wrongdoing in the province.

Following his work on the Heath Commission, Heath led the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) from 1997 to 2001. During his tenure at the SIU, he oversaw numerous investigations into corruption and fraud.

After leaving the SIU, Heath founded Heath Executive Consultants, a firm specializing in legal advice and forensic investigations. He worked with high-profile clients involved in complex legal battles, including the late mining magnate, Brett Kebble.

Heath was known for his unwavering commitment to justice and his ability to navigate complex legal cases. He represented clients with a strong conviction of their innocence, even in the face of significant challenges. One notable example was his representation of former President Jacob Zuma during the corruption charges against him in 2005.
