The Springboks have recently made their triumphant return to South Africa after completing an impressive unbeaten tour of the northern hemisphere. Throughout October and November, the team showcased their exceptional skills and strength on the field, securing victories against formidable opponents including Scotland, England, and Wales. This remarkable feat marks the first time since 2013 that the Springboks have concluded their November schedule without experiencing a single loss, highlighting their resilience and prowess in international rugby.

Upon their arrival back home, head coach Rassie Erasmus took to social media to share important news regarding his health. He revealed that he had recently undergone significant shoulder surgery, a procedure that he confirmed in a heartfelt voice message posted on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday evening. In his message, Erasmus expressed profound gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support throughout what has been a challenging yet rewarding year. He remarked, “Even when we experimented with some strategies and faced moments of difficulty, you always stood by us. I’m currently undergoing a shoulder operation, and while I won’t be sharing any post-surgery pictures, I want to assure everyone that everything is fine. I’m optimistic about being released from the hospital by the weekend.”

The head coach also took time to recognize the remarkable accomplishments of his players, specifically praising Pieter-Steph du Toit for winning the prestigious World Rugby Player of the Year Award. Additionally, he acknowledged the six Springbok players named in the World Rugby Dream XV: Ox Nche, Malcolm Marx, Eben Etzebeth, Damian de Allende, Jesse Kriel, and Cheslin Kolbe. Erasmus celebrated these achievements with pride, stating, “To our players who made it into the Dream XV and to Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who was a strong contender for the Breakthrough Player of the Year Award but narrowly missed out to the All Blacks’ Wallace Sititi, we are all proud of these accomplishments.”

In his message, Erasmus emphasized the importance of unity and support among South African sports fans. “As South Africans, we uplift one another. Whether you cheer for us or offer constructive criticism, it fuels our determination to perform even better for you,” he said.

He extended his warmest wishes for the upcoming holiday season, saying, “Fortunately, we have the United Rugby Championship (URC) currently underway, and some of our players are actively participating. To all our devoted fans, I hope you enjoy a joyful holiday season. Let’s remain humble, support one another, and stay grounded. We compete not only for you and for South Africa but also for our international supporters who understand what we embody as the Springboks. I genuinely appreciate that.”

Concluding his message, Erasmus reminded everyone of the deeper significance of sports, saying, “Ultimately, it’s all just a game that brings us immense pride. Merry Christmas to all, and I wish you a wonderful festive season filled with joy and laughter. I will likely return to social media only after the holidays. Cheers!”
