“The United Democratic Movement (UDM) is a social democratic party with a strong moral sense,
in both the social and economic areas. We advocate for a dispensation where our people can
become wealth creators in their own right, so that there is less dependence on government. But
that government must do more to create a conducive environment for our people to thrive.”

Mr Bantu Holomisa, MP
President of the United Democratic Movement

UDM Manifesto in a nutshell:

  1. Good Governance: Untangle corruption within the SOEs and will have zero tolerance for abuse of power, improve on service delivery and cut down on disobedience, respect Public Service Commission as the body responsible for making governmental appointments.
  2. Economy: Eliminate public debt and budget deficit, invest in business confidence, sustain job creation, enterprise development (SMME’s), eliminate loadshedding, infrastructure development and maintenance, invest in social transport infrastructure, education and seminars on fair distribution of land.
  3. Faith-based Organizations: Ensure that all faith-based organisations are given an independent platform to be a credible voice of reason.
  4. International Relations: For the development of the South African and African economies, it makes sense to gradually cease the mass export of raw materials so that jobs are created locally through homegrown processing and manufacturing.

  6. Safety, security, intelligence, justice and defense: Create a civil order system, enhance coordination between the ministries of justice, police, correctional services, defense and national intelligence.
  7. Gender-based violence and femicide: Address unequal gender power relations, launch an information campaign about the LGBTQIA+ community, launch an information campaign about Albinism.
  8. Education: Promote learning and teaching, have students and learners adopt a culture of learning and an appreciation for the value of time, ensure that each child has access to basic education, implement skills training, free higher education for students from poor and middle class families.
  9. Healthcare: Recognizing the role of social welfare, water and sanitation, basic life skills and the awareness to improve the basic health of the nation, commit itself to healthcare that is linked to other social cluster portfolios.
  10. Marginalised Stakeholders: Giving a voice to people with disabilities, ensuring that young women and school girls are given the guidance and support for sanitary needs, ensuring youth development and upskill.
  11. Coalition Government: Should UDM fall under a coalition government, it will ensure that it represents the wishes of the voters, give clear vision to voters on how the coalition would work with the coalition partner.
