THE HAGUE – Liverpool Football Club confirmed their new manager on Friday, with Feyenoord’s Arne Slot taking the reins from departing Jurgen Klopp.
Slot, who unofficially revealed the move to reporters, will officially be announced by both clubs “in the short term,” according to Feyenoord. The Dutchman’s move comes after an impressive spell at Feyenoord, culminating in a Dutch Cup win and a strong second-place finish in the Eredivisie.
The 45-year-old impressed many with his attacking brand of football at Feyenoord, mirroring the philosophy that brought success under Klopp. This attacking style was praised by Klopp himself last month, with Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk also endorsing Slot’s suitability for the Anfield role.
Slot’s success comes after a strong showing at his previous club, AZ Alkmaar. There, he led the team to the inaugural Europa Conference League final in his first season. He then delivered Feyenoord their second league title in 24 years just last season.
While not officially announced by Liverpool, the move is widely reported, with the BBC estimating Slot’s transfer fee at around £9.4 million. This signals Liverpool’s intent to continue the attacking style that defined Klopp’s reign.
