South African Adele fans were left disappointed this week after a brief glimmer of hope for a local concert turned out to be a cruel hoax. The ticketing platform Computicket listed an “Adele Presents: Coming to Africa” concert on their website, sending fans into a frenzy. However, the excitement was short-lived as the unbelievably low-ticket price of R89 (around $6 USD) raised immediate red flags.

Computicket quickly confirmed the listing to be a mistake and removed it from the website. They are currently processing refunds for any fans who purchased tickets for the non-existent concert.

“As such it has been suspended and removed from sale pending clarification from the promoter. Refunds for all patrons who purchased tickets have already commenced,” a Computicket spokesperson told The Citizen newspaper.

The incident highlights the ongoing issue of online ticketing scams. Adele is currently performing a residency in Las Vegas, with tickets averaging a staggering $2,350 (around R42,000) according to SeatGeek. This price is a far cry from the R89 advertised on the fake Computicket listing.

While the South African concert was a fantasy, Adele’s Las Vegas residency offers a glimpse into the intimate and interactive experience she creates for her fans. Known for her powerful vocals and heartfelt lyrics, Adele frequently brings audience members on stage and personalizes her shows. Recent highlights include a couple using the concert for a gender reveal and a young girl who was treated to a surprise duet of “When We Were Young.”
